We drove to Pinhão. The roads are slightly terrifying but the views are spectacular.
We were there in March so not everything was open. Best restaurant was Writers Place! The walking trails through the vineyards were fantastic!

The perfect spot to explore some of the lovely Quintas the Douro Valley has to offer. Would definitely recommend Pinhao as your base. We drove to Pinhao from Porto which was great for sight seeing and super easy. We visited the three Quintas that are within walking distance from Pinhao train station which were lovely. I’d recommend making a reservation in advance for dinners or lunch where possible. But we also did a few walk ins.

Pinhao is stunning. with good selection of restaurants in the evening. Beautiful wineries. As the wineries are built into cliffs the drive to Pinhao and around is not for the faint hearted. The roads are very narrow some without safety barriers. However if you can get past this it is worth it for the scenary. It is a sleepy village but everyone is so friendly. One or two days maximum is enough.

Excellent location on an S bend on the river Douro.
Excellent location on an S bend on the river Douro. Sleepy village atmosphere but with plenty of activities around the railway boat trips and quinta wine tasting. Some good restaurants. Wonderful views if you climb up through the village. Watch out for the dogs though - they are always enclosed but can be extremely aggressive.

The position of this hotel is breath taking and the staff are really helpful. Be careful when booking, some rooms are in the main building but some are away up and down a very, very steep lane. Not for anyone with a disability. We used the restaurant and although the food was lovely, we thought it was a bit pricey. It was good, but not that good.
If you’re looking for an amazing value for a stay in the Douro Valley, look no further. This is the place. Pedro recently renovated a historical building in the heart of Pinhão. It’s sparkling clean, modern, and very cute. The rooftop terrace is a treat. If you’re lucky the fox will come visit. A simple breakfast is included. Pedro and Sarah are generous and kind hosts who will tell you about the best places to visit in the region. I hope to come back in the future!
Location was beautiful, lovely view from our upstairs room, lots of outside space to enjoy wine, very quiet. The staff were extremely helpful and hard working, and despite being down some staff members, really took time to talk and help us out. Large and beautiful property. The drive out from Pinhoa was lovely. Pinhao was extremely busy and bustling, we were happy to be a little away from that in such a peaceful setting.
Our stay at Casas Botelho Elias exceeded our expectations! We traveled around Portugal with multiple stops along the way and this was by far our favorite stay of the whole trip. Pinhao is so beautiful and everyone in town was incredibly nice. The space itself felt very authentic and immediately made us feel at home. We were able to meet the host who was extremely kind and accommodating. Thank you for a fantastic stay!
Incredible home and great location.
Helena was such a warm and welcoming hostess. She provided a wonderful breakfast and was more than willing to communicate with us through google translate. We really enjoyed the hot tub, pool table and big screen tv when not out exploring the Douro valley or the great local restaurants. We would highly recommend you stay here when in Pinhão with your family.
great location with stunning view. room was very spacious with a nice view in itself. very clean. staff are lovely and very helpful, and they provide a welcome drinks. wine tour was a nice extra and the wine tasting was great. nice walks around hotel and hotel is very close to pinhao for more walks and attractions.
The apartment is spacious and well equipped apart from a kettle to boil water for tea. It is simply decorated.
It is just up the hill from the main part of Pinhao and walking distance to cafes and supermarket.
Parking is in the street.
The view from the patio across the town and river to the hills opposite.
It is a very quiet place, a tiny village. We liked very much the pool as it was extremely hot. The possibility for self service, using the fridge for storing our cheese for the evening meal we made for ourselves (note you have to buy all your groceries in Pinhao) sitting outside in the evening was Fabolous.
The hotel's location is phenomenal for walking to restaurants and vineyards. The views are incredible. Staff is lovely and super helpful. It is very clean. Property is beautiful. Room was really spacious. Breakfast was awesome.
This place was fantastic. The place was super clean, staff fantastic, lovely outdoor area and pool to relax. Perfect to explore the Douro valley area. Situated about 4km out of pinhao in a gorgeous village. We loved it.
The hosts were very nice and hospitable. They were very kind and offered us on several occasions pasteis de nata and made us tonic ports. The views over the river Douro and Pinhao from the verandah are just amazing!
It was in the center of Pinhão, easy walk to local area. The setting of The Vintage House is magnificent, it gives a good feel of relaxing atmosphere. The staff was awesome, very responsive and easy to deal with.
The hotel is conveniently located in Pinhão, making it an ideal choice for guests with a car. However, for those without a car, I recommend considering other accommodations.
Pablo and Sara created a unique place, we loved their hospitality and the location, it's definitely worth coming to Pinhao to stay in their hostel for more than one night.
Very friendly family who manage the apartment. Fruit and things for breakfast were provided. Lovely views from the swimming pool area. Pinhaõ is a great location.
Wonderful location in the small town of Pinhāo in the Douro valley. The houseboat is just as pictured and very well equipped with everything you might need.
