It’s undeniable – Bali offers some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. From the astounding cliffs and ocean views, to the peaceful rice terraces and temples, the scenery will leave you wanting more.

So much so…that we decided that we wanted to bring a little bit of Bali and all the wonderful family memories we’ve made there back home. So I booked us in for a Bali photoshoot with an incredible talented photographer!

The photos that we got back were absolutely magical – and despite having a toddler who did not feel like cooperating that day, we ended up with such a wonderful souvenir of our time in Bali.

We love our keepsakes from our Bali family photoshoot – if you’ve been thinking about booking a photoshoot in Bali, whether it be a maternity, couple’s, family or pre-wedding photoshoot, here is your sign to lock it in!

Most photographers will be happy to discuss photoshoot location ideas based on where you are staying, whereas some Bali photoshoot packages may already include a set of pre-determined locations.

Where’s the best place for your photoshoot? Well, if you are staying in Canggu for example, it may not make the most sense to trek over to East Bali or Uluwatu for a photoshoot.

You should also consider taking advantage of the stunning scenery and landscapes like one of the beaches in Uluwatu, Canggu, Nusa Dua or Sanur. Or venture to the Tegallalang Rice Terrace and waterfalls near Ubud. Many people choose to do Bali pre-wedding photoshoots at Taman Ujung’s stunning grounds in East Bali.

Alternatively, keep it simple by booking a photoshoot where you’re staying and ask the photographer to come to you! We split our Bali family photoshoot at two locations at Mu Bungalows in Uluwatu – the first half was at our private villa and the adjoining quiet laneways, and the second half of the photoshoot was done at the main property at sunset near the cliff.

This worked best for us as we knew there wouldn’t be a bunch of people watching on, and that our photoshoot would be reasonably quiet and private. If you’re planning on staging your photoshoot at a hotel, you may need to double check with the front desk that there aren’t any issues with bringing in a professional photographer in for a shoot on the hotel grounds.

It’s also important to know that you will probably want to avoid going to any beach club or pool club such as La Brisa, Potato Head, Finn’s and so on for a photoshoot, even if you are visiting as a guest. This is because most beach clubs in Bali do not allow anyone to bring in cameras and will ask that you leave it with reception – you’d only be able to take photos on your mobile phone rather any professional camera equipment. You will also likely have to pay the entrance fee for your photographer – and at places like Sundays Beach Club where there is no local rate for Indonesians, this can tack on a lot to your overall spend.

Bali photoshoot packages and prices

So, how much does it cost to book a photoshoot in Bali and what does it cost? It mainly depends on the length of the photoshoot, the photoshoot location and the inclusions – for example, whether the package includes hotel pick up/drop off (if needed), the photographer’s transportation fee, how many edited photos are provided and so on.

In general, you can expect to pay anywhere from US$35 to US$70 for a 1-hour photoshoot (not including hotel transfers or transportation fees). Photographers may charge more if they need to travel to a further photoshoot location which requires lengthier travel times (typically Amed, Beraban, Candidasa, Canggu, Payangan, Sidemen, Tegallalang, Tulamben and Ubud), and less for the “standard” coverage area (typically Jimbaran, Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Seminyak, Tanjung Benoa and Uluwatu) – it may vary from photographer to photographer so make sure you double check!

Photoshoot with Wayan Indra in Bali

We booked via Klook and paid a little bit more for this 1-hour family photoshoot package in Bali with Wayan Indra because it allowed us to purchase all of the original, unedited JPEG format photos from the shoot as an “add-on” – we ended up receiving almost 300 photos! This was in addition to the 15 edited photos that Wayan touched up for us.

Just so you know, we received a ton of photos where my son’s face is front-on and visible, but I’m not totally comfortable posting them on the Internet or social media – so hopefully you can still get a sense of the incredible photos that we got from the shoot!

Wayan was also such a pro and so patient with our toddler, we couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The booking process was so smooth and Wayan got in touch via Whatsapp to discuss the photoshoot location, preferred shooting styles and reference photos. We also felt so comfortable and not-at-all awkward, Wayan also made things much easier and bearable when our kid started losing interest towards the end!

I highly recommend booking Wayan for your photoshoot in Bali – he has experience with honeymoon, family, holiday and portrait shoots. The best way to book a photoshoot with Wayan is directly via Whatsapp at +62 822 3634 0610 or via Klook here. You can also see his photography style on his Instagram page here.

You’ll want to book ahead, especially if you are traveling to Bali over the peak season from June to September or around Christmas/New Year’s.

Ready to book a photoshoot in Bali? We loved our shoot with Wayan Indra who is an experienced and incredibly patient photographer. I have seen a few Bali couple photoshoots that he has done and the outcome is always so dreamy. You can also check out some other photoshoot packages in Bali by clicking here.

How to book a Bali photoshoot and what to expect

There are a few ways to book a photoshoot in Bali – one of the easiest is via Klook which I use frequently to book travel experiences, specially in Asia. The inclusions are clear, and the best part is that you can also read recent reviews from people who have booked previously! Read more about using Klook here.

Usually, the photographer will contact you within a day or so after the booking is confirmed. You can then discuss the photo ideas and shooting locations, preferred shooting time if you haven’t already selected a timeslot when booking, what to wear, any reference photos you have to help the photographer understand your preferred style (if any).

Tips for booking your Bali photoshoot

Bali photoshoot with family in Uluwatu
  • If you are planning a family photoshoot in Bali, I would encourage you to keep it under 1-hour as young children are not likely to cooperate for much longer than that!
  • Most photoshoot packages in Bali do not include hair & make-up service – so if you are planning a pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali or couple’s photoshoot you will need to be prepared to do your own hair/make-up, or hire your own artist. Most photographers recommend that wear your make-up slightly darker than you usually would for it to pop on camera. If you have long hair you may want to consider wearing it down as hair can add some movement to your photos.
  • The best time to do a photoshoot in Bali tends to be in the early morning or late afternoon, to avoid the glare from the mid-day sun (and crowds!)
  • Wondering what to wear for your Bali photoshoot? Remember that it can be warm so wear something comfortable that you can move around in. Neon colours, thick stripes and logos do not work well on camera, so clothing in muted tones and a neutral palette tends to work the best.
